Targeting America’s Cup success with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
INEOS TEAM UK has selected AWS as its official cloud computing provider in order to gain a competitive edge in the mission to become the first British sailing team to win the America’s Cup.
The team is leveraging AWS’s high performance computing (HPC) to design, test, and optimise its AC75 challenger boat.

Inside Tech | Deck Layout
It is mission-critical to maximise efficiency in the cockpit of Britannia both in aerodynamics and in creating the best performance positions for the crew.
We head back to September 2018 as INEOS TEAM UK sailor David Carr gives us the lowdown on the Britannia I deck mock up. Watch via the video above.
The grindhouse rules, powering the AC75 with Harken
In the 36th edition of the America’s Cup, the role of the grinder is more important than ever before. AC75 class boats are powered by both human energy and battery power. Whilst the batteries control the main foils and rudders, everything above the waterline, including every sail control, is powered by the onboard grinders using pedestals supplied by official Winch Systems and Deck Hardware partner, Harken.
Needless to say, the more power generated, the more accurately both the mainsail and headsail can be trimmed. That is why on INEOS TEAM UK’s AC75 ‘Britannia’ there will always be eight or nine people turning the handles on the Harken grinder pedestals and generating power for the trimmers. One of those grinders is British/Australian Graeme Spence, now in his second America’s Cup campaign (he sailed with ORACLE TEAM USA in the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda).

Ark Charter Academy receive support through INEOS Community Fund
INEOS TEAM UK has donated £10,000 in support of the Ark Charter Academy, Portsmouth, through the international INEOS Community Fund. This donation will be used to provide vital IT devices to disadvantaged young learners so that they can continue their studies from home for the period of the Coronavirus crisis.
To mark the donation, the 1851 Trust, INEOS TEAM UK’s official charity, organised a virtual Teaching Day for Ark Charter Academy Portsmouth on 8th July, where they hosted a STEM lesson for the year 10 pupils. The digital lesson, which was joined by INEOS TEAM UK Skipper and Team Principal Ben Ainslie, focused on “forces” and implemented resources inspired by INEOS TEAM UK’s America’s Cup Challenge.

INEOS 1:59 Education Resources
INEOS and the 1851 Trust, INEOS TEAM UK’s official charity, have launched three new free digital learning resources inspired by Eliud Kipchoge’s historic sub-two-hour marathon.
The digital education resources, aimed at 11-16 year olds and available for free online today, take young people into the INEOS 1:59 performance team and explore the science and theory that went into giving Kipchoge the best possible conditions to make history in Vienna.
